Garden description
The historic residence of renowned architect Bernard Maybeck, known as the Maybeck Cottage, sits in the North Berkeley hills looking out over the S. F. Bay to the Golden Gate Bridge. In 1988 Roger moved into the rustic residence and proceeded to surround it with gardens. Over the next 14 years these plantings evolved into a fantastic, horticulturally rich plant collection displayed in a series of garden rooms. Each "room" or "plant stage" used "found objects", unique paving, over-sized urns, and sculptural creations to dramatically contrast with extremely diverse plant selection. Roger coined "Planet Horticulture" here to describe his style.
